Ducks for Dementia

Ducks for Dementia is an initiative founded in 2023 by then-10-year-old David after seeing how a single rubber duck soothed his dad, who lives with early-onset Alzheimer’s, and brightened his grandmother’s day. In just two years, David’s charity has shipped boxes of colorful ducks every week to Memory Care homes in all 50 states (plus Canada, England, and Ireland) and has already raised more than $32,000 for Alzheimer’s research and support.

A Visit to Remember

At YourLife Senior Living, we’re always looking for simple, heartfelt ways to bring joy, comfort, and connection to our residents. That’s why we were so honored when YourLife of West Melbourne was nominated and selected for donation by Ducks for Dementia!

When we received the recent toy duck donation at our community, the joy was immediate. Residents lit up with laughter and curiosity- holding, squeezing, and sharing joy sparked by these simple, colorful toys. We’re grateful for partners like Ducks for Dementia who understand that even the smallest gestures can create meaningful connections. The fun, laughter, and light-hearted interaction these ducks inspired were a gift to both our residents and staff.

Why a Little Duck Makes a Big Difference

Familiar, easy-to-grasp objects can reduce anxiety, awaken pleasant memories, and invite conversation. We see this daily in our Life Skill Stations and reminiscence programs, where a resident might cradle a baby doll or fold a stack of towels. A bright yellow duck offers the same sensory comfort, and its nostalgic shape often prompts smiles, stories, or a gentle laugh.
